Just Like Tomorrow

Title: Just Like Tomorrow
Author: Faiza Guene
Year of Publication: 2004 (French), 2006 (English)
Translated by: Sarah Adams (from french to English)
Genre: Diary
My Rating: 4 out of 5

The novel follows the life of Doria, the daughter of two immigrant Morrocans. living in the suburbs of Paris, with her illiterate mother. Her father has run off to Morroco, never to return, and they are barely making ends meet. At school, she continues her sessions with her counseller, with no interest in doing well. Her witty and often hilarious observations mellow out her seemingly glum life.

I enjoyed reading this novel as I haven't read a translated novel before. It was just slightly a problem to make sense of what was being said, as some of the words were translated from verlan into English. Overall, a lovely novel, worth reading, as it gives an insight to lives of the immigrant French.
